Free visibility where customers already look
In Kenya, Google Maps is the app people use most to find their way and to discover businesses. Search for "garage Mombasa Road" or "hair salon Kilimani" and the results come from businesses that have a Google Business Profile. Putting your Kenyan business on Google Maps costs nothing, yet most small businesses in Kenya have never claimed their listing.
Setting up your Google Business Profile
- Open business.google.com
- Log in with your Google account
- Search for your business: claim the listing if it exists, or create one
- Fill in your business name, category, address and phone number
- Say whether customers come to you or you travel to them
- Verify the business, usually by postcard or by a call to your Kenyan phone number
- Add your opening hours, photos, services and website address
Getting more out of your profile
- Add good photos: outside, inside, products or services, and your team
- Write a business description that uses the words customers search for
- List every part of Kenya you serve
- Keep opening hours accurate, public holidays included
- Reply to every review, good or bad
- Post an update each week, much as you would on Facebook
A profile and a website work best together
A Google Business Profile with no website behind it looks less credible. Link your SiteBoma-hosted website from the profile and you have the full local SEO package.
