Own your home base
On Spotify or Apple Podcasts alone, you are building on rented land: the platform, not you, owns your audience. A podcast website in Kenya is a base you control, with an email list of your own and a direct way to earn from your show.
What to include
- Episode archive: a searchable list of every episode
- Audio player: embedded on each episode page
- Show notes: written summaries with links, which help SEO
- Subscribe buttons: Spotify, Apple Podcasts and the other apps you publish to
- About the host: your story and why listeners should trust you
- Sponsorship page: for winning Kenyan brand deals
- Email sign-up: to build a listener community
- Social media links
WordPress plugins for podcasters
- Seriously Simple Podcasting: free, very good and used by thousands of podcasters
- PowerPress: free and packed with features, from Blubrry
- Podcast Episode: straightforward and tidy
Where should the audio files live?
Audio files are huge, so keep them off your web hosting. Use an audio host such as Buzzsprout or Anchor (now Spotify for Podcasters), then embed its player on your SiteBoma-hosted website.
Next step: compare our shared hosting plans, with room for episode pages and show notes.
