For Kenyans living in Canada

Your business at home, without the late-night calls

Many Kenyans in Canada keep something running at home: a family shop, a farm, rental units, a school, a church project. The website for it is usually set up once, then forgotten until a renewal fails and customers in Kenya find an error page. From Toronto or Calgary, sorting that out means calls across seven or more hours of time difference.

We take the website off that list. The plan comes with a control panel login in your name, daily backups you can restore yourself, a certificate that keeps the padlock showing and mailboxes on the business domain. When the invoice arrives, pay it with a Canadian card or send the number to someone at home to pay by M-Pesa.

Our team works from Nairobi, so a ticket you send in your evening is often done by your morning. Our hosting server is in the United Kingdom. We answer in English on live chat, email and tickets.

Included on every plan

  • An SSL certificate at no cost, renewed for you
  • NVMe SSD storage behind a LiteSpeed web server
  • The DirectAdmin panel, with WordPress in one click
  • Mailboxes at your own domain name
  • A backup every day, which you can restore without us
  • Your existing site moved across free
  • Uptime tested every minute and shown live on our status page

Domains for Canada

As well as .com, .org and 200+ other extensions, these are the ones that matter most to Kenyans in Canada: .ca for a business here, and .co.ke for one at home. .co.ke and .ca register at checkout the moment the invoice is paid, the same as .com. Look at the renewal column before you decide, since some extensions cost more to renew than to register.

Extension Register Renew Transfer in
.co.ke KSh 1,200$9.23/yr KSh 1,700$13.08/yr KSh 1,700$13.08/yr Check
.ca KSh 1,550$11.92/yr KSh 1,550$11.92/yr KSh 1,550$11.92/yr Check

.ca needs a Canadian presence: Canadian citizens, permanent residents and businesses registered in Canada qualify, among others, and CIRA, the registry, can ask for proof later. Anyone can register a .co.ke, in Kenya or abroad, with no documents.

These figures come straight from our live catalogue, so the price shown is the price charged. Still undecided? Our guide on picking a domain name works just as well beyond Kenya's borders.

How to pay from Canada

Ways to pay

  • Visa or Mastercard on Paystack's secure checkout page. From Canada this is the usual way to pay, and you need nothing extra to use it. Because the charge is in Kenyan shillings, your bank may add a foreign transaction fee.
  • Prices display in US dollars. The actual charge is made in Kenyan shillings (KES), and your bank changes Canadian dollars into KES at an exchange rate it sets.
  • Bank transfer, for yearly invoices or bigger projects. Ask us on live chat and we will send you the details.

What we cannot accept, so checkout holds no surprises

M-Pesa at our checkout means Safaricom M-Pesa in Kenya and nothing else. Interac e-Transfer and PayPal are not available at checkout. Better that you read it here than find out halfway through paying.

No VAT is added to our prices. Should your accountant need the invoice laid out a certain way for local bookkeeping, tell us and we will issue it in that format.

Switching to SiteBoma from Canada

1

Share the details

Let us know who hosts you now, which domain you use and roughly how large the site is. Live chat gets the quickest reply.

2

We move a copy

Your files, databases and mailboxes come over to our server and are tested there, while the old site carries on running.

3

You review it

A preview link lets you inspect the new copy. Your visitors see no change until you approve it.

4

Switch the domain

Change the nameservers yourself, or let us do it when the domain is registered with us. Every paid plan includes the move free.

What Kenyans in Canada ask us

By M-Pesa, without needing an account with us. On their phone they open Lipa na M-Pesa, choose Paybill, enter 1393006 as the business number and your invoice number as the account number. Our system matches the payment to the invoice by itself.

Yes. KeNIC lets anyone, anywhere, hold a .co.ke, and no documents are needed for it; only go.ke, ac.ke and sc.ke names require paperwork. Once the invoice is paid the domain is registered, and the yearly price is in the table above. If you want a .ca as well, remember that it needs a Canadian presence.

Yes, with a Visa or Mastercard on Paystack's checkout. The charge is in Kenyan shillings and your bank converts it from Canadian dollars, so it may add a foreign transaction fee. Interac e-Transfer and PayPal are not available.

Toronto is 7 or 8 hours behind Nairobi and Vancouver 10 or 11, depending on the season. In practice you write in your evening and find the answer in your morning. For live chat, the start of your day is the best time to catch us.

On our hosting server in the United Kingdom, managed by our team in Nairobi. Rather than quote a speed figure, we publish a status page that checks our website, the server, email and payments every minute.

Yes. Send us what the business does, a few photos and the contacts to show, and our website design service builds the site, which we then host.
