Hosting for the organisations that keep Malawi running

A great deal of Malawi's online presence belongs to organisations: NGOs, schools, church bodies, cooperatives and the consultancies that work with them. Their websites are often built for a project, funded for a year, and then left with nobody holding the password when the project ends.

Good hosting outlives the project. Every SiteBoma plan has a control panel with your own login, a backup every day that you can restore yourself, an SSL certificate that renews on its own and mailboxes on your own domain, so the site and its email stay with the organisation, not with whoever set them up.

Lilongwe is one hour behind Nairobi, so our working days almost match. We answer in English on live chat, email and tickets. Our hosting server is in the United Kingdom.

Included on every plan

  • An SSL certificate at no cost, renewed for you
  • NVMe SSD storage behind a LiteSpeed web server
  • The DirectAdmin panel, with WordPress in one click
  • Mailboxes at your own domain name
  • A backup every day, which you can restore without us
  • Your existing site moved across free
  • Uptime tested every minute and shown live on our status page

Farming and cooperatives

Tea, tobacco, macadamia and other producers who need buyers to find them.

Lodges and tours

Operators around Lake Malawi and Liwonde whose guests book from abroad.

Consultancies

Firms in Lilongwe and Blantyre bidding for donor and government work.

Developers

People hosting client sites who want DirectAdmin, SSH and staging.

Where your site is physically hosted

Your site is served from our hosting server in the United Kingdom. The people answering your live chat, email and tickets work in Nairobi, on East Africa Time.

You will not find a made-up latency number here. Instead, our live status page tests our website, the hosting server, mail, the payment gateway and the domain registry once a minute, and keeps the honest record, bad days included.

Good to know in Malawi

  • Central Africa Time, UTC+2: one hour behind Nairobi, so our working days almost match
  • Our team replies in English
  • Visitors on Airtel and TNM open your site the same way they open any other
  • Covering Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu and Zomba

Domains for Malawi

As well as .com, .org and 200+ other extensions, we can register the ones that belong to Malawi. Our team handles these country domains by hand, so they are not instant at checkout: allow one business day. The invoice comes first, and we confirm the domain once registration completes. Look at the renewal column before you decide, since some extensions cost more to renew than to register.

Extension Register Renew Transfer in
.mw KSh 10,200$78.46/yr KSh 10,200$78.46/yr KSh 10,200$78.46/yr Check

Any person, company or organisation can register a .mw, in Malawi or outside it, with no documents. Only .gov.mw is reserved for government.

These figures come straight from our live catalogue, so the price shown is the price charged. Still undecided? Our guide on picking a domain name works just as well beyond Kenya's borders.

How to pay from Malawi

Ways to pay

  • Visa or Mastercard on Paystack's secure checkout page. From Malawi this is the usual way to pay, and you need nothing extra to use it. Some Malawian banks block card payments to companies abroad. If that happens, a bank transfer is the fallback, and live chat can arrange it.
  • Prices display in US dollars. The actual charge is made in Kenyan shillings (KES), and your bank changes kwacha into KES at an exchange rate it sets.
  • Bank transfer, for yearly invoices or bigger projects. Ask us on live chat and we will send you the details.

What we cannot accept, so checkout holds no surprises

M-Pesa at our checkout means Safaricom M-Pesa in Kenya and nothing else. Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba are not available at checkout. Better that you read it here than find out halfway through paying.

No VAT is added to our prices. Should your accountant need the invoice laid out a certain way for local bookkeeping, tell us and we will issue it in that format.

Switching to SiteBoma from Malawi

1

Share the details

Let us know who hosts you now, which domain you use and roughly how large the site is. Live chat gets the quickest reply.

2

We move a copy

Your files, databases and mailboxes come over to our server and are tested there, while the old site carries on running.

3

You review it

A preview link lets you inspect the new copy. Your visitors see no change until you approve it.

4

Switch the domain

Change the nameservers yourself, or let us do it when the domain is registered with us. Every paid plan includes the move free.

What people in Malawi ask us

No, not at present. The only mobile money we take is Safaricom M-Pesa in Kenya. You can pay by Visa or Mastercard on Paystack's checkout. Not every Malawian bank card can pay a company abroad; if yours cannot, ask us on live chat about a bank transfer.

Yes, by hand, so allow a business day. Any person, company or organisation can register one, in Malawi or outside it, with no documents. The price is in the table above; check the renewal column as well as the first-year price.

Nothing changes as long as the invoice is paid. The account, the domain and the mailboxes belong to your organisation, with logins you hold. Before a project closes, tell us who takes over and we will move the billing contact to them.

On our server in the United Kingdom. The team that runs it sits in Nairobi, and our status page publishes a minute-by-minute record of our website, the server, mail and payments, so you can judge the service for yourself.

Yes. Malawi runs one hour behind Kenya, so a message sent from Lilongwe at nine reaches Nairobi at ten, inside our day. People, not a script, answer live chat, email and tickets.

We do. If your organisation has no site, or the project site has been abandoned, our website design service can rebuild it and hand every login over to the organisation.
